The Viking Ship Museum

The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde is the Danish museum for ships, seafaring and boatbuilding culture in ancient and medieval times. The museum offers unique possibilities to explore the Viking ships, the Viking age, and life at sea.
The original five Viking ships from the 11th century are displayed in The Viking Ship Hall. The ships were found in Roskilde Fjord in 1962.
The Museum Island lies at the centre of many activities. Here you will find the museum’s Boatyard, the Archaeological Workshop and Tunet – the Vikings’ meeting place.
The museum's big boat collection contains Viking ships and other Nordic boats, all of which are harboured at the Museum Island. The collection is not only for show. During the summer season, visitors can participate in boat trips from Museum Harbour in some of the vessels.
Every year, the museum has 130,000 visitors, out of which around 70% are foreigners. The Michelin Guide has given the museum 3 stars - out of 3 possible stars. Furthermore, the museum is yearly visited by 20,000 school children.
